Can anyone start their own MLS (multiple listing service)?
What is stopping a person from creating their own nationwide MLS? If I created such a system, is there anything from stopping real estate brokers and agents from using it? It seems very impractical to have hundreds of regional MLS systems when there could be one unified system for all.The problems with so many different MLS systems are the following If you are a broker or agent that operates in more than one region, then you'll need to pay for more than one system. Imagine having to log into two or three completely different different interfaces and data requirements systems to create or update a listing. Another major point is data extraction. Most brokers and agents display their listings from MLS on their websites. If you are trying to pull data out of three different systems, it will require a programmer to code this functionality three different ways. At the end it will take that much longer to integrate you listings onto your website and that much more money.

What is the multiple listing service that NYC apartment brokers use for looking up rentals?
I'm concerned that information from craigslist and other sites aren't as accurate...just wondering what the pros use. Thanks

What does Act. Cont. mean in san francisco multiple listing service?
Some houses are Active and others are Act. Cont. I have no idea what that means. Does it mean Active Continued? Does it mean its sold? Pending? Sigh I'm in need of a nice home since the economy is rising and I just sold my old home for cheap price.
