How do I find new home sales in my neighborhood?
I want to find out who has bought a new home in the last month within a specifc zip code.
Should I use TurboTax or H&R if I have a loss with my home sale?
I finally sold my home last year 40 % below the home value. If I cannot claim any deduction, I prefer to use Turbo. In 2010, H& R charged me $219 for simple single filing, and last year I used Turbo Tax and paid only $50. Any advice? If I do with Turbo, where should I go for the value of my home? Thanks.I received $17,000 from the sale even with a loss, and also a check of $800 from the mortgage company. Should I pay any tax on these amounts? Many Thanks
Manufactured home sales center, got the pre approval letter, salesman keeps asking?
if I received the Truth in Lending, I only have a good faith estimate. I'm asked to sign a purchase agreement and write a check to the mortgage company for the down payment. The next day, I get a call saying the down payment should not have been written to the mortgage company but to sales center and I do. Still have not received the Truth in Lending papers, I call the mortgage company and am told I was declined and would not get any papers in the mail. Where does this leave the money I paid?The check to the sales center was cashed the day I wrote it.

Example My parent's own a home that they paid $75,000 for several years ago. I wish to buy it from them for say $100,000. Will they be exempt from capital gains on the sale of their home under the IRS sale of primary residence exemption $500,000 for married and $250,000 for singles or would the $25,000 gain be taxable to them since it is a sale to a relative? I can only find information relating to this in Pub 529, but it is vague and refers for " remaining interest" which I am not sure applies.In additional to Pub 529, I can't seem to find anything in IRC 121 which not allow the exclusion due to a related party sale other then the following part 8 Sales of remainder interests For purposes of this section A In general At the election of the taxpayer, this section shall not fail to apply to the sale or exchange of an interest in a principal residence by reason of such interest being a remainder interest in such residence, but this section shall not apply to any other interest in such residence which is sold or exchanged separately. B Exception for sales to related parties Subparagraph A shall not apply to any sale to, or exchange with, any person who bears a relationship to the taxpayer which is described in section 267 b or 707 b .Does this section even relate as it is talking about the " remaining interest" similar to Pub 529 which I am not familiar with?

My hubby and I bought a house with my parents. It is now time to sell and my parents are going to buy their own house as are we. They put down $350,000 on the house. We put down $384,500. My husband and I have paid all expenses, mortgage, utility bills....everything. They are retired and have not paid anything because the plan was that the house would be mine when they passed. So now that we are selling what is the right split? I should mention that by the time we sell next spring we will have lived there 5 years .

Even if the economy is good, should we always expect that new homes will sell? It could be simply there there are more homes being built than there are people who want to buy a new home.Not every person wants to buy a new home and rather stay and are comfortable in the house, condo or the apartment they live in.Even if a person does want to buy a new home, they cannot until they sell their current home. I also think that HOAs keep many people from buying some homes. Many people do not like the restrictions and the high dues that come from having a Home Owner's Association. Many new neighborhoods include a HOA and potential buyers may not like being told they cannot build a fence, shed or pool in their backyard.
