Are cheap houses a trap? Are there any decent houses less than 50k?
I really don't know anything about buying a house, but some of the houses on realtor.com are suspiciously cheap and it makes me wonder if there is a reason. For instance, you see a 25,000 dollar 3 bedroom home on a 1 acre property with full access to utilities and the previous year's taxes paid were as if it were a 120,000 dollar home yet it is only being sold for 25,000. Are there likely back taxes owed on the premises or some other trap that buyers should look out for?Also, any tips for someone who is just looking for cheap and affordable housing? I'll be getting a settlement soon of around $50,000 and I want to buy something outright because I don't want to be stuck paying for something my whole life. I'm very strongly opposed to getting myself into debt and so far I'm 27 with no debts so I've done good up to this point.I've noticed that houses in Detroit and other cities with lots of foreclosures are extremely cheap but I'm afraid I'm simply naive and not understanding the full picture here about why it is so cheap. I try to take in all possible variables like crime, access to things like nearby stores, jobs, etc., but when there isn't an obvious reason why a house is so cheap, what could it be?

I have seen foreclosed homes in my area Atlanta for 20k and 30k. I have a 23 month old daughter and am desperate to raise her in a home. I am not working and I am in a bad living arrangement I need to go now for my own sanity.

I have roughly 50gs i can spend on a house. I am looking at foreclosure homes any state but missouri. I'd like a small rural area, miles of country and woods, something like colorado. My group of friends and i really want to do something different for senior prom... for " after prom" instead of going to the jersey shore or clubbing like everyone else. we thought of renting some place on the beach or on a lake. we live in Long Island so we considered either going out on east on th eisland but that tends to get expensive because its the hamptons. we considered the pocanoes but theres a lot of ticks and stuff and im pretty much the only " campy" on in the group. we don tplan to drink alcohol at least most of us dont but we want someplace that can accomdate more than 10 people i know thats the limit for a lot of places and there has to be fun things to do around where we are staying. we can have fun doing the simplest things sometimes like bowling haha. we considered that if we were on a lake renting jet skis or something. it has to be as cheap as possible we are senior going off to college... we dont have much $ the closer to nassua county the better because it would be cheaper and less of a struggle to travel keep limits at about 2 hrs but not TOO close to home. any suggestions? please and thank you so so much
